Responding to small batch, multi product production with profile grinding technology
THINK HEAD, a Chinese specialist in gear processing equipment, participated in SIMTOS 2026 held at KINTEX in Goyang, demonstrating its internally developed PG3270H profile gear grinding machine. The PG3270H utilizes a profile grinding method where gears are machined using specialized grinding wheels tailored to the specific geometry of the gear teeth. This configuration ensures operational flexibility for multi product, small batch production environments due to its wide processing range and ease of wheel replacement.
LIZHI, an engineer at THINK HEAD, explained, "Since the geometric precision and surface finish of gear teeth directly impact the noise and vibration of drive units, the PG3270H is designed to ensure grinding stability for various gear components used in automobiles, industrial machinery, and energy equipment."
Beyond profile gear grinders, THINK HEAD maintains a diverse lineup of gear related equipment, including CNC thread grinding machines and gear processing tools. The company also employs a structure where it develops and mass-produces its own high speed spindles, high precision indexing heads, dressing shafts, and CNC systems the core driving components of the machinery.
The company noted that relying on external sources for core components makes it difficult to consistently manage the precision of the entire machine. Therefore, by integrating its own technology from the spindle to the control system, THINK HEAD focuses on minimizing precision deviations between machines.
"Gear manufacturing is a process where the final quality is determined by the cumulative precision of equipment across each stage, from cutting to grinding," stated LIZHI. "As such, THINK HEAD's equipment design direction focuses on maintaining consistent precision throughout the entire process, not just the performance of individual machines."
