KROHNE Launches OPTIMASS 5400 Coriolis Mass Flowmeter for Standard Process Applications
KROHNE has introduced the OPTIMASS 5400, a next-generation Coriolis mass flowmeter developed for standard industrial process applications. Designed for liquids, gases, and slurries, the new instrument combines precise flow measurement with integrated diagnostics and multi-parameter monitoring to support increasingly data-driven industrial operations.
As manufacturers continue to adopt digitalized process management and predictive maintenance strategies, industrial flowmeters are expected to deliver more than basic flow measurement. Real-time diagnostics, equipment condition monitoring, and process optimization have become increasingly important in improving plant reliability and operational efficiency.
The OPTIMASS 5400 addresses these requirements by operating across a temperature range of -50°C to +180°C and pressures of up to 100 bar, making it suitable for a broad range of process industries. It offers a standard liquid mass flow accuracy of ±0.15%, with an optional configuration achieving ±0.1% accuracy for applications requiring higher measurement precision.
Beyond mass flow measurement, the instrument can simultaneously monitor density, temperature, volumetric flow, concentration, and viscosity, allowing operators to obtain multiple process variables from a single device. This integrated measurement capability helps simplify instrumentation while providing additional process insights for production optimization and quality control.
The new flowmeter also incorporates several features designed to improve measurement reliability. Its pressure-resistant housing withstands burst pressures exceeding 200 bar, while the integrated Entrained Gas Management (EGM) function maintains stable measurement performance even under two-phase flow conditions where entrained gas is present.
When paired with the MFC 400 signal converter, the OPTIMASS 5400 provides continuous diagnostics through KROHNE's OPTICHECK technology. Operators can monitor both instrument status and process conditions around the clock, supporting condition-based maintenance (CBM) and predictive maintenance (PdM) initiatives.
Operational convenience has also been enhanced. Bluetooth connectivity enables easier local access to the device, while the OPTICHECK Flow Mobile App supports field verification and inspection. The flowmeter is compatible with multiple industrial communication protocols, including HART 7, Modbus, FOUNDATION Fieldbus, PROFIBUS PA/DP, PROFINET, and EtherNet/IP, allowing integration into a wide variety of existing automation systems.
The OPTIMASS 5400 is available in DN10 to DN100 (½–4 inch) sizes with both flanged and hygienic process connections. It also supports approvals for hazardous areas, hygienic applications, and marine environments. Its compact and lightweight design further simplifies installation and commissioning.
As industrial facilities place greater emphasis on process visibility and asset reliability, flow measurement technologies are evolving into intelligent field devices capable of supporting operational decision-making as well as measurement functions.
Kim Tae-hyung, Deputy Manager of KROHNE Korea, said, "Industrial users are increasingly looking for measurement solutions that not only deliver high accuracy but also provide actionable diagnostic information for process optimization and maintenance planning. The OPTIMASS 5400 has been developed to meet these evolving requirements by combining reliable measurement performance with advanced monitoring capabilities for a wide range of standard process applications."
