Hyundai Robotics was launched on the 1st of May as a newly established corporation, in order to reinforce the rapidly growing robotics industry.
On the 25th of March, the main shareholder Hyundai Heavy Industries announced through its periodic general meeting of stockholders that they will physically partition the robotics field to the newly established subsidiary company Hyundai Robotics.
The corporate name for this newly partitioned subsidiary is Hyundai "Robotics Corporation", and Hyundai Heavy Industries owns all of its shares. Seo Yu Sung, the former vice president that acted as the representative of robotics field activities, will be the first president of Hyundai Robotics. Through its establishment, Hyundai Robotics aims to achieve independence and a clear identity as a corporation specialized in robotics, and to use its outstanding growth in the robotics industry, a core component of the 4th industrial revolution, to acquire strategic investments.
A core component in Hyundai Robotics' strategy is industrial and cleaning robots, and the manufacturing of these robots are planned to be expanded to include malfunction forecasting systems based on robot monitoring systems, and other smart factory features that will reduce maintenance costs for clients.
Furthermore, Hyundai Robotics hopes to use its robotics technologies as a means of venture into various other industries. One such possibility is the rapidly growing automated distribution sector in the distribution logistics industry, through the establishment of another subsidiary in Hyundai L&S.
It also hopes to target the electronics industry and develop miniaturized high-speed handling robots, collaborative robots, mobile service robots and various robots to form a product line for this industry.
A spokesperson from Hyundai Robotics said "Through this partition, we will boost our profitability, and the assured independence and specialization of management in Hyundai Robotics is expected to raise its industrial competitiveness." and "Besides being the #1 domestic corporation, this is the starting point of our journey towards becoming a worldwide global robotics total solutions provider."
